Budget setting and the potential adoption of health technology assessment (HTA) are the two principal factors threatening the availability of medical devices in Germany. That was the consensus emerging from a press seminar in Berlin last week, entitled "Medical technology of the future - the future of medical technology," which was organised by BVMed, the German medical devices industry association, and sought to examine the future role of innovative medical devices in the German health system.
