Executive Summary
Support is growing in Europe for additional controls on the use of silicone breast implants. The latest group to add its voice to the debate is the European Parliament's Environment Committee which has drafted an opinion supporting the tightening of requirements for breast implants in line with recommendations published in the recent study by the European Parliament's Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA) Committee (see Clinica No 910, p 6). These call for specific measures to improve information for patients, tracking and surveillance, quality control and assurance, and key research.
