Executive Summary
Medwave has received US FDA 510(k) clearance for its handheld, non-invasive blood pressure monitor. The Vasotrax device measures systolic and diastolic blood pressures and pulse rate from the radial artery on the wrist. Readings are displayed on the monitor in around 15 seconds. The St Paul, Minnesota company claims the device produces "significantly more accurate" results than the traditional blood pressure cuff and has been shown to have a mean correlation of around 0.9 compared with an indwelling arterial catheter.
