The UAE armed forces, together with the UAE Red Crescent Society, has signed an agreement to finance the construction and maintenance of a new hospital in Kosovo. The Shaikh Zayed hospital, to be built at a cost of Dh12 million ($3.3 million), is due to open in August 2002. Maintenance costs are expected to be in the region of Dh5 million per year. A further Dh5 million will be spent on medical equipment. The UAE already has an armed forces hospital in Kosovo and to date this has treated some 159,000 cases, reports the Gulf News.
