Anti-virus measures unveiled after PACS (picture archiving and communications system) failure:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

An undisclosed manufacturer of a radiology picture archiving and communications system (PACS) is to review its anti-virus measures, following a software failure in the UK. The Medical Devices Agency has warned that networked medical devices are particularly vulnerable to inadequate IT control systems, including updated virus-detection and recovery software. A combination of control failures allowed virus-infected IT equipment to be connected to a hospital network, says the MDA, warning of the need to put "reasonable systems" in place to ensure compliance with the NHS Executive's information management & technology controls assurance standard 10.
