Executive Summary
The Scottish Executive is to spend £4 million ($5.9 million) on cancer surgery and screening equipment in 2002, as part of a first £10.7 million package to be allocated from a £40 million fund announced in July. Computed tomography, ultrasound, image-guided surgery, endoscopy, colonoscopy, mammography and haematology screening equipment are among the areas to benefit. £6.8 million will be spent initially on recruiting some 130 cancer specialists.
