Hip implants carry little risk of cancers, study finds

Executive Summary
People who undergo hip replacement are, overall, at no greater risk of developing most types of cancer than the general population, a major study of over 100,000 hip implant patients has shown. However, the implant recipients studied did appear to have a slightly increased risk of developing certain cancers - melanoma, multiple myeloma and prostrate and bladder cancers. While these cancers may be due to chance or bias, say the study's authors, they warrant further investigation because of the ever-increasing use of hip implants at younger ages.
