UK researchers have developed a rapid blood test for meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia - Oxfordshire, UK-based EMS has launched the test in the UK. The Immunosonic device uses an ultrasound-based latex agglutination method, which was developed by Cardiff University and EMS and takes just 30 minutes compared with PCR methods, which can take more than a day to confirm. It can distinguish group B and C infection, enabling vaccination decisions to be made quickly, said EMS.
