Sales of laboratory and rapid in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests in Japan declined in 1998 for the second consecutive year to Yen 246,185 million ($2,137 million), a 3.7% decrease from ¥55,773 million in 1997. Sales of over-the-counter (OTC) tests, including pregnancy test kits, also dropped by 14.8% to Yen3,555 million.
