Executive Summary

St Jude Medical has begun US clinical trials for its Photon DR dual-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The 46cc device, which combines bradycardia capabilities with tachycardia therapy, has a thickness of 12.7mm and is the thinnest dual-chamber ICD yet, said the St Paul, Minnesota-based company. The Photon has already been implanted in patients in clinical trials in Germany (see Clinica No 891, p 18).
