Executive Summary
Danish minister of health Arne Rolighed has praised the work undertaken on preventative medicine in the health service. "There are over 1,000 prevention initiatives ongoing at present in our hospitals. This is magnificent and the people behind them deserve high praise," he said. Mr Rolighed added that a series of investigations into the impact of preventive medicine on the health service have shown that it reduced the number of deaths caused by smoking, alcohol abuse and complications resulting from operations. Mortality is lower in Denmark than most European countries as a result of these initiatives and the average life expectancy has risen.
