Catalonia needs to invest between 42% and 55% more on healthcare to match EU per capita spending levels. This is the main conclusion of research commissioned by the regional departments of health and social security and of economy into how best to meet the needs of the region. The findings, presented last week by the respective regional ministers, Eduard Rius and Francesc Homs, come at a time of intense discussion into how best to complete the devolution of the service to the regions and how to standardise delivery nationally.
