Executive Summary
The US FDA has approved for sale St Jude Medical's Livewire TC Compass ablation catheter, an advanced mapping system designed to locate the origins of supraventricular tachycardias, including atrial fibrillation. The catheter can also be used to perform RF ablation of selected supraventricular tachycardias. The company said it plans to introduce the catheter during the third quarter. The Livewire approval came shortly after the agency granted approval for two other St Jude devices: the Integrity AFx DR Model 5346 pacemaker, which incorporates a Dynamic Atrial Overdrive feature that suppresses atrial fibrillation; and the firm's Photon Micro DR/VR implantable cardioverter defibrillator family.
