Study casts doubt on routine Helicobacter pylori testing

Executive Summary
Routinely testing for the Helicobacter pylori bacterium in patients with dyspepsia at primary care does not help in the diagnosis of peptic ulcers. This is the conclusion of a Dutch study, which also found that testing is only useful in patients at high risk of peptic ulcer disease and that these patients can be identified by asking three simple questions during a consultation.
