Executive Summary
A German team has performed the first human implantation of a new stent-graft designed to promote rapid endothelialisation of the device. The product, developed by CardioVasc, of Menlo Park, California, was implanted by researchers from Kerckhoff Heart Center in Bad Nauheim. The low-profile, highly flexible device incorporates a surface treatment technology for enhancing endothelial cell adhesion after implantation, says CardioVasc, which is developing small diameter vascular stent-graft and surface technologies for promoting endothelialisation of implants. The product will initially be targeted at the treatment of lesions in saphenous vein grafts.
