Executive Summary
Medtronic is to take a one-off charge of around $52 million, after the Federal Circuit Court of Appeal affirmed an earlier district court decision concerning a patent infringement case. The initial case, dating from late 1999, found that certain of Medtronic Sofamor Danek's spinal fixation products infringed patent held by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary AcroMed (see Clinica No 860, p 12).
