The first German citizens' conference on gene diagnostics is to take place in the Hygiene Museum in Dresden later this year. The conference, entitled "Conflict area: gene diagnostics", is designed to allow ordinary citizens to voice their opinions on what has hitherto been regarded as a matter for politicians, the clergy and healthcare professionals only. It will be based on a the Scandinavian style "consensus conference", which take place every 20 years the aim of which is to bring politicians closer to the populace.
