ChromaVision Medical Systems has used its Automated Cell Imaging System (ACIS) in combination with immunomagnetic beads to detect circulating tumour cells in the blood of breast cancer patients. In a study presented last month at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in New Orleans, the company claimed the technique could detect a single cancer cell out of 100 million cells in just 15cc of blood.
