Executive Summary

The Turkish minister of health, Dr Osman Durmus, has outlined three major objectives for improving the country's health system. The minister said that he favoured granting more power for self-government to the hospitals, improving preventative healthcare services and placing greater emphasis on long-term care and rehabilitation, reports the Turkish Daily News. In order to allow hospitals to work around the clock, he proposes a system whereby personnel would work in shifts. He also intends to promote social health insurance for all and private investment in the industry.
