German doctors plan new strikes

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

In protest against the pharmaceutical budget and the "miserable" remuneration fees, general practitioners and psychotherapists in former East Germany and in Berlin have threatened further strikes in the out-patient sector. Doctors' associations claim that they are losing some DM 10,000 per physician, due to the restrictions of the pharmaceutical budget. In addition, health insurance funds have demanded the DM 70,000 that they claim doctors owe them for having exceeded their budgets.
