Executive Summary
The US FDA has approved Symphonix Devices' PMA supplement for its next generation Vibrant Soundbridge semi-implantable hearing device. The system incorporates eight-channel digital signal processing (DSP) technology, which is housed in the external part of the device allowing Vibrant Soundbridge patients to upgrade their existing system. The San Jose, California company licensed the DSP technology from Siemens and will now programme its Vibrant Soundbridge using Siemens' PC-based Connexx fitting software. The device was CE-marked for sale in Europe last year.
