The UK Department of Health (DoH) has ordered that surgical instruments used in tonsillectomies be discarded after their first use. The measure, which will be introduced this year, will cost £25 million ($37.5 million) per year, and is designed to further minimise the theoretical risk of the transmission of vCJD in UK hospitals.
