This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Mikola, the new health minister in Hungary, is promising reforms and additional funding for the healthcare system. He took up the post on January 1, succeeding Arpad Gogl who failed to deliver many of his reform promises. Mr Mikola, former head of the National Blood Supply Institute, insisted that the control of the National Health Fund should move to the health ministry from the finance ministry before accepting the post. Mr Gogl will head the National Healthcare Institute, which will oversee healthcare research and education.
