Test can detect HIV resistance before viral load increase

ViroLogic has released data that show that its PhenoSense HIV phenotypic resistance assay can detect the emergence of viral drug resistance in HIV patients before a significant increase in the viral load is apparent. This is the first time that this has been demonstrated, ViroLogic says, and may have important implications for the management of patients receiving antiretroviral therapy.
