deCODE genetics has found what it says is the first gene that has a significant link to the development of psoriatic arthritis, a form of arthritis that affects around 10% of patients with psoriasis. deCODe intends to identify the gene, which is located on chromosome 16, as well as targets for the development of new therapies, says the Reykjavik, Iceland firm, which collaborated in the project with researchers from the National University Hospital, Reykjavik.
