Executive Summary
The US FDA has cleared for sale an easier-to-use version of Physiometrix' system for monitoring a patient's level of consciousness under anaesthesia. The new PSA 4000 monitor can now be used with the company's "frontal array" sensor - a disposable device that fits on the forehead of the patient being monitored. The clearance is expected to eliminate a considerable impediment to greater market acceptance of the PSA system, said John Williams, the North Billerica, Massachusetts firm's president and CEO. The company said it anticipated launching the product through its exclusive distribution partner, Baxter Healthcare, this month.
