Mexico braced for dengue upsurge:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Mexico is bracing itself for an upsurge in the incidence of dengue, following the intense rainfall brought by hurricane Isidore. The states of Yucatan, Campeche and Chiapas are the focus of a new emergency prevention plan, announced last week. Since the beginning of October, over 440 new cases have been reported, bringing this year's total to over 5,800. Of these, 740 were the potentially fatal haemorrhagic type, against which early detection is crucial (see Clinica No 1021, p 11 and No 1001, p 14).
