Executive Summary
German firm Erbe Elektromedizin's waterjet technology has been used for first time in the US to perform a liver transplant operation involving a living donor. The FDA-cleared device, called the Erbe Helix Hydro-Jet, delivers saline solution under very high pressure necessary for precise, selective tissue dissection by dividing soft tissue while preserving nerves, vessels and ducts, says the Tubingen, Germany company. Using the technique, no complications and only minimal blood were reported by the operating surgeons from Drexel University College of Medicine, at Hahnemann University Hospital, Phildelphia, Pennsylvania.
