Executive Summary
Magna-Lab has reported that an animal study to assess its intra-vascular MRI catheter coil as a means of diagnosing coronary artery disease has produce positive results. The resolutions of images obtained with the intra-vascular coil "far surpass the resolution possible with optimised surface coils, which is the best technology used today", said Dr Motoya Hayase, of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) - where the trial was conducted. The device, which is used with MRI technology, consists of an intra-vascular MRI coil that is threaded through a catheter and guide-wire to the site of the atherosclerotic blockage.
