German medical device reuse due for re-assessment in 2004

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The regulations for the reconditioning of medical devices in Germany should be revised in 2004 when a third amendment to the medical product law (MPG) will be put before parliament. This is the recommendation of Wilfried Reischl, a departmental head in the medical devices section at the ministry of health. Speaking at a MedInform conference entitled, "The reuse of medical devices - more security through new legislation?" in Mainz last week, Mr Reischl told delegates: "In 2004, on experiences to date, a report will show which regulations have succeeded and which are in need of improvement."
