Executive Summary
The UK's National Society for Epilepsy (NSE) has been awarded £1.7m ($2.7m) to conduct research on the use of MRI for diagnosing epilepsy and better identifying patients most suitable for surgery. The five-year project will look at the use of MRI in distinguishing the parts of the brain that generate epileptic activity from those involved in correct language and memory functions; and will assess how to improve MRI techniques, such as by using higher-strength scanners and combining MRI with EEG monitoring, to help make this distinction.
