Executive Summary
UK police are now entitled to demand that drivers suspected of drink-driving undergo a blood test. The Police Reform Act, which comes into force today (October 1 2002), aims to give the police stronger powers to secure proof of drink-driving among drivers who either refuse to be breathalised or are unconscious following an accident. The Home Office pilot involving the use of point-of-care tests for drug-abuse is still underway (see Clinica No 1004, p 19).
