Scotland tackles ortho waits with £4 million private work

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Scottish Executive has announced on September 10 2002 a £4m ($6.2m) initiative to tackle waits for hip and knee surgery. The money will be used over the next six months to enable some 500 patients who have waited for up to one year for these procedures to be treated in private hospitals. The announcement comes in the wake of statistics that highlighted what health minister Malcolm Chisholm described as the "particularly problematic" state of orthopaedics services (see Clinica No 1023, p 6).
