Executive Summary
The breast centre at the Bethesda Evangelical Hospital in the German state of North Rhine Westphalia (NRW) has become one of the first to fulfil the regional government's criteria for official registration as an officially-certified breast centre to tackle breast cancer. The hospital has already performed over 300 breast cancer operations, far outstripping the 150 needed to gain government approval under health minister Birgit Fischer's plans to improve patient quality care in the state (see Clinica No 1019, p 4).
