The Global Communication Partnership (GCP) has been awarded $127m from the US Agency for International Development to fight infectious diseases, improve maternal and child health and reduce fertility in the developing world. The GCP, lead by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programmes, is to implement a five-year global strategic communication project to promote health awareness amongst individuals and communities in developing countries, thereby enabling them to "combat public health threats on their own with minimal outside help".
