Mexico has pledged to put genomics at the top of its healthcare research modernisation agenda. At a recent symposium on the future of genomics in medicine, health minister Dr Julio Frenk Mora said that the current national healthcare research strategy sets out guarantees for funding in this area. He also announced that the establishment of the national genomics medicine institute is now subject only to the approval of congress. If approved, it will become the 11th national healthcare institute of the Mexican health service, the SSA.
