EU reaffirms Mercosur commitment with E200 million aid

The countries of the Latin American trading bloc Mercosur are to receive European Union development assistance aid totalling E200m ($196m). The investment will support a co-operation strategy programme in each of the four countries of the Mercosur bloc. During the period 2002-06, Argentina will receive E65.7m, Brazil will get E64m, Paraguay E51.7m and Uruguay E18.6m, to help develop infrastructure, promote social and economic regeneration and trade investment, among other things.
