Executive Summary

UK plans to establish a national body to monitor healthcare services and safety from the patients' perspective have moved a step forward with the appointment, announced today (August 2, 2002), of Sharon Grant as chair designate. The Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health, due to be established in January 2003, will be responsible for national reviews of the services provided by the NHS and for alerting the appropriate bodies about patient safety.
