Executive Summary
The European Commission has posted on its website a series of reports on healthcare in countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The reports, which were produced by the Health Information Unit of the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe, with the support of the European Commission, cover: Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Romania, Hungary, Estonia, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. They are all approximately 40 pages long and give useful information on causes of death and rates of infectious diseases, as well as on lifestyles and environmental influences on health. Each report also contains a chapter on the healthcare system, explaining the healthcare reforms that have been going on in these countries over the past decade and the way in which healthcare is financed.
