Executive Summary
Italian moves to regulate the technology involved in the use of human embryonic tissue have met with international condemnation, after the lower parliamentary house passed legislation imposing tight restrictions, including a ban on the freezing of embryos. The legislation, which aims to jointly regulate reproductive medicine and biotechnology patenting (see Clinica No 1012, p 6), is due to go before the Senate within the next few months.
