Belarus faces HIV crisis because of too few blood tests

Executive Summary

The rate of HIV and tuberculosis infection in Belarus is spiralling out of control, mainly because the lack of money in many regions has meant that there are no blood tests. Some 3,000 people were infected with AIDS in Belarus in 2000 and officials say they must act quickly to avoid these becoming enormous public health problems, as in neighbouring Russia.
