German prostate cancer on the rise:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Only 15% of German men are taking the opportunity offered by the health service to opt for preventative prostate cancer screening, claims the professional association of German urologists (DGU). Its president, Klaus Schalkhauser, said that prostate cancer had replaced lung cancer as the most common form of cancer amongst men and there was now an urgent need to break the silence over what is traditionally a taboo subject in Germany. There are at present some 3 million affected by prostate disease in Germany and about 800,000 of these have cancer. Each year some 38,000 men in Germany contract prostate cancer.
