German ministry will not regulate care home reimbursement

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

It is the job of the self-governing bodies of the health service to determine what items may be reimbursed as medical aids in care homes, and not the German ministry of health's (BMG) responsibility, says Ingeborg Lutter, deputy director of the department for nursing care at the BMG. Speaking at a MedInform conference, held under the auspices of the medical device industry association (BVMed), on the reimbursement of medical aids last week in Cologne, Ms Lutter sought to clarify an ongoing dispute between the statutory health insurance funds, patients and care homes.
