Healthcare workers suffer some 30 needlestick injuries per 100 beds each year, according to statistics from Eucomed, and as many as 60% of incidents remain unreported. The risk of tranmission of infections is 1 in 3 workers for hepatitis B, 1 in 30 for hepatitis C and 1 in 300 for HIV. These figures have been collected by Eucomed in the context of its campaign to improve education about the dangers of sharps and to promote the use of medical devices incorporating sharps safety features.
