US to end obligatory lead test for children

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The US government is considering ending a requirement that all states test children in poverty for lead poisoning. Some states have complained that universal testing is unnecessary because they have relatively low lead concentrations. Under current law, children enrolled in the federal state health plan Medicaid must be tested by the states at age 12 months and again at 24 months of age.
