Executive Summary
The Peruvian government is under increasing pressure to invest in medical equipment and supplies, particularly in its regional hospitals. Health minister Fernando Carbone Campoverde has acknowledged the seriousness of the problem nationally, after being challenged in Congress earlier this month over the inadequacy of the facilities and the shortage of supplies. "Many hospitals are in a calamitous state with regard to both infrastructure and supplies," said Dr Carbone. While blaming the problem on previous administrations, he said that all efforts are now being made to remedy the problem.
