Executive Summary
A recent survey of French medical device companies has underlined to the French government that it needs to take action to encourage its industry to be more innovative and competitive. Companies taking part in the survey spent an average of just 2.4% on research and development, the survey found. The levels vary hugely, however, with some start-up companies dedicating 50% of their turnover to R&D, while some of the larger companies, whose turnover exceeds FF 500 million ($67m), rarely allocate more than 5%.
