Executive Summary
The UK Department of Health has announced details of the new trusts that will begin to pilot the provision of digital hearing aids, as part of the second wave of a project that should see 27 adult audiology sites and 30 paediatric sites provide the technology within the next 12 months. The programme is seen by the UK healthcare industry to have major implications for NHS procurement policy (see Clinica No 983, p 7). The government has allocated £20 million ($28.6 million) to pilot the programme in 2002-03.
