Japan to unfurl more device "centres of excellence" plans

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

A new round of discussions between US companies and the Japanese medical device authorities on the establishment of medical device "centres of excellence" is set for June. Delegates from AdvaMed, the US Advanced Medical Technology Association, will meet senior staff from the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) in Tokyo to talk about how local medical centres can qualify as such centres of excellence, and what the rewards for them will be. AdvaMed president Pam Bailey voiced hopes in January for such centres as a way of cutting costs for suppliers (see Clinica No 994, p 13).
