Zimmer is to pay $108m in cash and stock to acquire commercial partner Implex, an Allendale, New Jersey company whose porous biomaterial it has used in its replacement hips, knees and shoulders since 2000. The Warsaw, Indiana orthopaedics giant says it now wants to use the material, which it markets as Trabecular Metal, in its new spinal operations, which it acquired with Centerpulse, of Switzerland.
